BREAKING NEWS: President Bush appoints John Bolton as United Nations Ambassador

President George W. Bush just appointed John Bolton as Ambassador to the United Nations. President Bush has the right to circumvent the United States Senate and use the recess appointment under Article 2, Section 2 of the United States Constitution.

Bolton was awaiting a vote to be installed as ambassador, but his nomination faced bipartisan opposition.

Bolton is the highest ranked official to be installed by the recess appointment in recent years and the first U.N. Ambassador to ever receive a recess appointment.

How will this appointment play out in the halls of Congress? Read my thoughts from June 20th: http://americanpolitix.blogspot.com/2005/06/recess-appointment-of-bolton-is-good.html

I think the recess appointment of the UN ambassador is good for Dems in the long run because it makes Bush look incredibly weak and more and more like a lame duck president.

Bolton had the votes in the Senate and the Dems didn't have the votes for a filibuster. Why didn't Frist just bring him up for a vote? He cleared all of his committees.

Again, Bush looks so weak because of this.

I agree with tdog. Bush is struggling badly. The race in Ohio yesterday was just further proof that Bush is a lame duck president.
